When Fox and NBC Universal announced last March that they would join forces to put their TV shows online, the pundits of Silicon Valley howled with derision. Old media doesn’t get the Internet, they said. Michael Arrington, the influential editor of TechCrunch, rattled off the reasons the project would never succeed and suggested that Fox and NBC quickly name their joint venture before it got stuck with the moniker insiders at Google had reportedly given it: Clown Co.

The Register on their article quoted that Microsoft is in no hurry to integrate the technology and culture of Yahoo! should the aggressive takeover go ahead. This remark is obvious because the technologies and cultures of MSFT and YHOO are very different. Yahoo! is a mixed bag of technology with a large proportion of its systems running open source while Micro$oft have their own propitiatory system.

Oracle has upgraded its Web-based software designed to help salespeople win more business, its latest attempt to overtake its younger but bigger rival in that field, Salesforce.com Inc, four analysts briefed by Oracle. Web based version from Oracle is easier to use than a legacy version and is designed to run seamlessly with popular web programs from companies including Google and Yahoo.

Sun Microsystems unveiled its plans to build a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for the iPhone. JVM will be based on Apple iPhone SDK that was released recently. This is a big boost for Apple in its fight to launch the iPhone as an easy business option in competition with other smart phones and PDAs.

Verizon Wireless expects annual revenue growth in the double-digit percentage range for the next few years, according to Doreen Toben, chief financial officer of majority parent Verizon Communications Inc. We’re very upbeat about the prospects for wireless growth for 2008 and beyond, Toben said. Verizon Wireless is a venture of Verizon and Vodafone Group.
